Accommodation

Geneva is bursting with luxury hotels - of the 132 hotels in the canton, 14 are five star and 22 are four star, which totals about 8500 top-class rooms. Since the hotels look after royalty, politicians and high-ranking diplomats, security and discretion are assured.

Most hotels are situated on the right bank overlooking the lake, others are on the left bank (a central business location) and in the cobbled, sloping streets of the Old Town.

Hotel prices offer few surprises; the best hotels are the most expensive and hotels charge most for the eagerly sought-after rooms with lake views. Nevertheless, hotels outside the centre are slightly better value and prices do drop for regular clients, groups and long-term visitors. Since hotels live on the business community, the weekdays are the most in demand; therefore, tariffs may be lowered during weekends. The Geneva Tourist Office provides a central booking and reservation service (tel: (022) 909 7000).
